Part 5 of 5 – The Power of Affirmations

Well, here we are at the end of my first 5 part series! I hope you have enjoyed reading these articles and have been able to take something away from them that has been useful to you. What I have tried to convey in the 4 previous articles is that when dealing with any mental health problem a multi faceted approach is required. However, regardless of approach used, there is one element that is fundamental in any treatment plan and that is the buy in and participation of you, the client. Unless you are ready and willing to actively participate in the therapy process, and be committed to trying new strategies and persevering when things get difficult, then no amount of therapy is going to be beneficial or see you achieve your goals. No one can do it for you, not the counsellor, a friend or family member. A counsellor can guide, suggest and encourage but at the end of the day you have to put in the hard yards.
Another part of therapy I feel to be incredibly important is that of the journey of self discovery. It is only by truly getting to know ourselves, our history, our triggers, our thought processes and being willing to talk through them with a counsellor that real progress toward your goals and a healthier you can be achieved.
Once you are on the path of self discovery it is almost as though a whole new world opens up before you. At least it has for me. From personal experience using a thought journal to identify my automatic negative thoughts and then using affirmations and other strategies to combat them and not give them the time I used to has been truly life changing. I am more confident in who I am and I understand when I have down days that it is ok. Life is not perfect, neither am I. I’m not saying I never have negative thoughts, I do, quite frequently, but I am able to dismiss them as untrue by referring to my “you rock” list or by reciting an
affirmation or by using other tools I have learnt that are effective for me.
I am passionate about empowering women with the tools and knowledge to be able to achieve their goals and develop into the person they have always wanted to be without being hindered by negative internal dialogue. Everyone is different. Everyone has different life experiences and different ways of interpreting events. I will work with you to find the solutions that work for you. You are unique and therefore the combination of strategies that work for you will be too.
Not sure if I’m the counsellor for you?
For the remainder of the month of May 2015 I will be offering a free meet and greet session. This session can take place at your home or a coffee shop, park, library or anywhere you feel comfortable, will last for approximately half an hour and is completely obligation free. I will come to you and we can have a chat to see if working together would help you. I will leave you my business card and brochure and if you want us to work together you can call or email me to make an appointment.
Email me today (amazeinlife@hotmail.com) to arrange your free session.
